About the Opportunity
This is a compelling opportunity for a communications professional to join a proactive, future-focused team, responsible for delivering high-quality, strategic communications that inform, engage, and inspire the Moree Plains community. This role supports the Executive Team, including the General Manager and Mayor, to drive community engagement and positive brand positioning across traditional and digital channels.

The position offers exposure to a variety of strategic and operational communications duties, including media management, content development, stakeholder engagement, crisis communication, and social media strategy. The successful candidate will also play a key role in promoting best practice communications standards and fostering trust and transparency between Council and the community.

This is a remote role, offered on a part-time basis (2 days per week), providing a rare opportunity to make a real impact while working flexibly from your chosen location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communications initiatives and media campaigns
  • Produce compelling media releases, social media content, newsletters, and website updates
  • Manage and grow Council’s social media presence, ensuring timely engagement and professional customer interactions
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on media matters and public messaging
  • Coordinate content creation for advertising, marketing materials, and video
  • Monitor and analyse public sentiment and media coverage
  • Support the delivery of Council’s Community Engagement Strategy

About You

You are a highly organised communicator with a flair for storytelling, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement.

You work independently with confidence, meet deadlines easily, and have a keen eye for detail and brand consistency.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (or Diploma with equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience producing high-quality written content and managing media relations
  • High-level computer literacy and social media management skills
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of NSW Local Government or State Government operations
  • Experience developing communication strategies and writing ministerial briefs
  • Competence with media equipment (e.g., photography, video editing)
