The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager of Finance and Governance, the Governance Lead will be responsible for developing and maintaining organisational governance through best practice.
The Governance Lead plays a key role in ensuring effective stakeholder engagement to implement governance frameworks and strategies. This role focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships across the business and fostering open communication with key stakeholders to ensure that governance initiatives are practical, fit-for-purpose, and aligned with Coal LSL’s statutory and business obligations. The Governance Lead will promote collaboration, accountability, and shared leadership, ensuring that governance practices not only meet compliance requirements but also contribute to the organisation’s broader success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Coal LSL’s governance strategy and frameworks.
- Ensure governance frameworks meet legislative, government policy, and Corporate Commonwealth Entity obligations.
- Deliver governance programs that ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of business practices, while safeguarding Coal LSL’s reputation and stakeholder relationships.
- Develop and enhance organisational capabilities through training initiatives, sharing lessons learnt, and supporting adherence to governance best practices.
- Provide expert, timely advice on emerging governance issues, trends, and their impact on Coal LSL’s operations.
- Manage and respond to escalated incidents and disclosures, including FOI, PID, privacy, and fraud.
- Lead the annual insurance renewal program and ensure compliance with related processes.
- Continuously review and improve governance systems to ensure alignment with organisational needs.
- Translate strategic priorities into operational reality by aligning resources, communication, and processes for sustainable outcomes.
- Foster a culture of accountability and change management to drive organisational success, while supporting risk management and WHS activities.
The Successful Candidate
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, Corporate Governance, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience in driving small teams and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and performance.
- Experience in a similar role within a government or similar sector environment.
- Strong understanding of risk, governance, and compliance principles with the ability to apply these in practical situations.
- Proficiency in applying legislation to business practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining effective relationships across the organisation.
- Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills for report writing and policy development.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic environments and proactively manage business improvement initiatives.
