Verve Partners is partnering with a reputable, locally owned firm in Newcastle that provides high-quality bookkeeping services to a wide range of clients. They are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join their team in a permanent position. 

As the Senior Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring that all bookkeeping processes are handled efficiently and accurately. Your role will involve managing payroll, preparing financial reports, processing BAS and other statutory reports, and ensuring that accounts payable and receivable are up to date. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure statutory BAS obligations are met, including ATO deferrals 
  • Monitor bookkeeping workflows and ensure timely completion of tasks 
  • Provide client support on bookkeeping-related matters
  • Handle bookkeeping data entry (debtors/creditors, bank reconciliation, payroll) 
  • Assist clients with BAS preparation, payroll processing, superannuation, and single touch payroll finalisation
  • Identify business development opportunities 
  • Offer consulting advice on bookkeeping software and office procedures
  • Train clients and team members on bookkeeping systems and processes
  • Maintain and update firm systems (document management, client databases) 
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of internal procedures for better efficiency 
  • Maintain a commercial outlook in terms of productivity, work-in-progress (WIP), and client budgets

Skills & Experience: 

  • Completion of a graduate degree or bookkeeping certificate 
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software (essential)  
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify and rectify errors in financial records
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively 
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
