How to create an impressive admin resume

What should you include in your admin resume to stand out against the competition? Here are our top tips.

Voice of Verve insight by Kara Bouchier | Office Support Specialist

Working in administration and office support roles can be diverse and rewarding. But how can you maximise your chances of getting an interview when you see the perfect position? What will make your resume rise to the top of the pile?

Here are our top six expert tips:

1. Start strong!

Open with a short introductory paragraph that gives an overview of your admin skills and experience, demonstrating why you’re a great fit for the role. Tailor it to the job requirements and industry.

Conclude by sharing your career goals, summarising your personal strengths and highlighting how these align with the company’s culture and values. Do your research!

2. Outline work history and skills

Use bullet points to highlight your administrative responsibilities for each position in your work history. Plus, include measurable accomplishments, such as, ‘I negotiated a supplier agreement which saved the company 15% in stationery costs.”

Also, list your skills. As admin roles today require more tech savviness than ever, make sure to include the software you’re proficient in.

3. Showcase relevant education

List your education and training and briefly explain how this helps you carry out administrative tasks.

It’s also worth providing details of any awards, experiences and other relevant prizes that may relate to the job you’re applying for.

4. Tailor your resume

Each administrative role you apply for will be different, so it’s essential to adapt every aspect of your resume accordingly.

Look at the job description and tailor your work history to highlight how your experience and skills align with the job requirements. Use keywords from the job description throughout your resume.

5. Use AI wisely

AI and ChatGPT can be useful tools for providing inspiration, formatting your resume and saving time. However, an AI generated admin resume can lack personalisation and warmth. It can be repetitive, contain mistakes and use the wrong type of language.

Use AI sparingly or as a starting point. Polish any content so it sounds like you and check for errors.

6. Pay attention to detail

A flawless resume is crucial.

To create an error-free resume, use spell check and Grammarly, verify that all information is accurate and concise and maintain consistent formatting. As an additional step, ask someone else to take a look.
