Experienced Water & Wastewater Drafter sought for a Newcastle-based consultancy delivering major projects for the Hunter and Regional Councils.
Drafter – Water & Wastewater Design
About the Company
This is a locally owned and operated water infrastructure consultancy with a strong track record delivering projects for Government corporations, local Councils, and private developers across the Hunter and Regional NSW.
Founded over a decade ago by an experienced industry professional with a background in major utilities and tier-one engineering firms, the company has grown steadily on the back of repeat clients and word-of-mouth reputation.
With a compact, high-performing team of engineers and consultants, they pride themselves on being hands-on, practical, and responsive — working on everything from large-scale infrastructure projects to bespoke private developments.
About the Role
Due to ongoing demand and an expanding client base, an opportunity has been created for an experienced Drafter to join the team.
You’ll play a key role in delivering detailed designs for water and wastewater projects using AutoCAD/Civil 3D/Plant3D. You’ll work closely with a small team of engineers in a relaxed, flexible office environment where collaboration and initiative are valued.
This is a great opportunity for a drafter who enjoys variety and values the autonomy to produce great work. No pigeon-holing, just interesting projects and the ability to see designs through from concept to delivery.

- Collaborate with engineers to gather design information and project requirements.
- Develop detailed designs and documentation using primarily Civil 3D.
- Prepare diagrams, maps, and layouts to accurately illustrate design intent and workflows.
- Produce and refine preliminary sketches in consultation with the engineering team.
- Incorporate feedback from engineers and stakeholders to update and finalise drawings.
- Review and verify plans and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct site inspections to support design development.
- Prepare clear and consistent technical documentation and design plans.
- Identify potential design or operational issues and implement improvements to enhance functionality.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and quality assurance procedures.
- Stay informed on updates to industry standards, codes, and legislation.
- Work effectively within contractual and regulatory frameworks.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with internal teams, clients, and authorities.
- Promote and maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
About You
- Proven experience as a Civil Drafter within the water/wastewater sector.
- Relevant qualification in Engineering Design or Drafting.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness for occasional travel.
Why You’ll Love It
- Flexible start/finish times and one WFH day per week.
- Supportive, no-ego culture – everyone works together to get things done.
- Diverse projects: from regional infrastructure to private developments.
- Opportunity to grow with the business – potential for leadership or equity in future.
- Owner-operated firm with genuine work-life balance and long-term stability.
