ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this role is responsible for the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates to support NEACH’s tendering and business development activities.
You will contribute to securing profitable work by developing detailed costings across fabrication and SMP projects, ensuring all submissions align with internal systems, ISO standards and AS/NZS 5131 CC3 requirements.
This is a commercially focused role within a high-compliance environment. You will work closely with the Commercial Manager, Operations and Production teams, and Marketing and BD, ensuring estimates reflect both technical requirements and delivery capability.
You will play a key role in supporting tender submissions, maintaining estimating accuracy, and contributing to continuous improvement across estimating systems and processes.
Core responsibilities:
- Preparation of detailed take-offs, cost estimates and pricing for fabrication and SMP projects
- Review of drawings, specifications and tender documentation for scope and accuracy
- Preparation and coordination of supplier and subcontractor RFQs
- Support for tender submissions, EOIs and prequalification documentation
- Maintenance and benchmarking of estimating databases to improve accuracy
- Contribution to tender reviews, risk assessments and project handovers
- Tracking of tender outcomes and feedback to improve future estimating performance
- Collaboration with internal stakeholders to align estimating with operational capability
- Compliance with IMS, ISO standards and AS/NZS 5131 CC3 requirements
ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced Estimator with a background in structural steel or SMP projects, comfortable working in a detail-driven environment where accuracy and compliance are critical to project success.
You understand how to interpret drawings, build reliable cost models and support commercial decision-making. You bring structure, attention to detail and accountability to your work, ensuring estimates are both competitive and deliverable.
Experience and capability:
- 5+ years’ experience in estimating within steel fabrication or SMP projects
- Demonstrated experience pricing and winning projects, ideally in the $1m+ range
- Exposure to larger project tenders in the $5m+ range will be highly regarded
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications with accuracy
- Experience preparing RFQs and engaging with suppliers and subcontractors
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving capability
- Proficiency in Tekla EPM, WorkBench and MS Excel
- Understanding of ISO systems and relevant standards including AS/NZS 5131 CC3 desirable
- Experience supporting commercial or contract reviews will be well regarded
- Experience using CRM systems or similar tools to track and follow up bids will be advantageous
- Ability to work collaboratively across commercial, production and project teams
- Relevant qualifications in engineering, construction or quantity surveying highly regarded
